Cai is the courageous young Dragon Rider of Pumpkin Village and Emberwing’s closest friend.

He is adventurous, energetic and determined, but never arrogant. Cai encourages children to be brave, join the adventure and help protect the village when trouble arrives.

The performer must bring warmth, humour and genuine excitement to the role. Cai should feel like a believable hero whom children immediately trust and want to follow.

This role includes:

• Working closely with the Pumpkin Queen and Emberwing
• Improvising with children and families
• Roaming Pumpkin Village between shows

Experience in acting, musical theatre, presenting, children’s entertainment, holiday parks, theme parks or live family events would be particularly relevant.

Emberwing may be large and powerful, but he is also playful, curious and incredibly gentle.

He communicates entirely through movement. He reacts to Cai, the Pumpkin Queen, the audience and the world around him, creating both exciting stage moments and smaller, magical interactions with individual children.

The performer must make guests forget that there is someone inside a costume and allow them to believe they have genuinely met a dragon.

Previous experience in physical theatre, dance, puppetry, mascot performance or costume character work would be helpful, but it is not essential. Full character and movement training will be provided.

Patch has spent so long looking after the pumpkin patch that he has become part of it.

He is energetic, excitable and always getting himself into harmless trouble. Patch loves telling jokes, playing games and involving children in his latest ridiculous idea.

This role requires a performer who is confident using physical comedy, improvising and creating laughter without relying on a script.

Medi is not a frightening witch. She is kind, curious and full of imagination.

She enjoys sharing stories, discussing potions and spells, and making every child feel that they have discovered something magical.

Medi should feel calm and enchanting while still having a playful sense of humour. The performer must be comfortable creating conversations and stories based on each child’s interests and reactions.

Captain Blackvine is a pumpkin pirate who wants to take control of the village and steal its magic.

He is a family-friendly villain: theatrical enough for children to boo and challenge, but never genuinely frightening. He believes he is clever, intimidating and always in control—even when his plans are clearly falling apart.

This role needs a bold performer who can confidently approach groups, provoke playful reactions and turn every encounter into a miniature performance.
